Seperti kita tahu, Dua minggu ini Red Hat dan IBM membuat blunder besar dengan membuat masa depan CentOS yang menjadi salah satu portofolio produk Red Hat ke arah yang jauh dari titik awal distro linux dikembangkan. CentOS 8 adalah versi CentOS yang terakhir yang akan ada, setelah itu centos akan dikembangkan menjadi CentOS Stream. Dulu CentOS adalah 'versi komunitas' dari RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) yang dijamin 100% kompatibel. CentOS Stream sendiri adalah distro rolling release yang akan jadi basis dari RHEL itu sendiri, alias dibalik flownya.

Alternatif CentOS: Rocky Linux

Rocky Linux adalah distro linux yang akan dikembangkan oleh komunitas 100% untuk Komunitas penggunanya, dijamin kompatibilitasnya dengan RHEL. Rocky Linux diumumkan oleh om Greg Kurtzer, co-founder dari CentOS 16 tahun lalu. Seperti berikut rilis lengkapnya:
